Stress, one of the most important diseases of our age, brings many diseases such as headache, heart disease, obesity, nausea, skin diseases, stomach problems, body aches. Drawing attention to a study published in the Journal of Periodontology in 2007, experts state that 56 percent of the participants stated that stress prevents them from brushing and flossing effectively, revealing how stress interferes with oral hygiene. Stating that many people turn to bad or negative habits that affect oral health, such as tobacco or alcohol, together with stress, experts said, “The risk factors of tobacco and alcohol can affect the formation of periodontal disease.” They point out that during periods of stress, the hormone cortisol rises, which can cause periodontal disease.
