The term endodontics; In the meaning of endo, derived from the words meaning odont tooth, it means the discomfort of the teeth and the tissues surrounding the tooth.

Endodontics, also known as root canal treatment in the colloquial language, is the process of collecting the nerves in the center after the tooth structure is damaged due to caries close to the nerve. Tooth loss is prevented by filling the tooth with a filling after the nerves are removed. While the teeth with damaged nerve tissue in the past are being extracted; Today, thanks to endodontic treatment, tooth extraction has decreased considerably. For this reason, it has become one of the most used methods by dentists.

If we examine the structure of the tooth briefly; The tooth consists of two parts, the first part is the crown and the second part is the root. The crown is the outer side of the tooth. The root is the part that cannot be seen from the outside but can be seen with radiological films. crown; It consists of three layers: enamel, pulp and dentin. Disturbances in the pulp of the tooth are in the field of endodontics.

dental pulp; It is a soft tissue layer consisting of vessels and nerves located deep in the tooth. Tooth decay and fractures close to the pulp increase the risk of inflammation here. If the inflamed nerves are not removed from the pulp, it causes a serious infection and abscess formation. At this point, endodontic application has a great importance in terms of saving the tooth.
