A professional tennis court is rectangular and measures 23.77m (78 feet) long by 10.97m (36 feet) wide. The width for singles competition is 8.23 ​​m (27 feet).

The court is divided in the middle by a net suspended from a steel wire or cord passing over two 1.07 meters (3 1/2 feet) high poles. The net should be taut, fill completely between the posts, and be woven so tightly that the ball cannot pass. The median height of the net is 0.914 m (3 feet), and the height and tension of the net is adjusted by a “middle band” that is fixed to the ground by passing over the steel wire holding the net.
